Abstract

Two ocean products are combined, a regional ocean model (ROMS-NWA) and a global ocean data assimilated models (GLORYS12v1) to build a high-resolution, long-term bottom temperature product for the northeast U.S. continental shelf between 1959 and 2020. ROMS-NWA is bias-corrected using monthly decadal climatologies from ocean observations. Model skill was assessed using a large number of in situ observations. This performance assessment is presented in du Pontavice et al. 2023

Purpose

This bottom temperature product may be valuable for a range of applications in fisheries, marine ecology, and oceanography in the region. It provides a long-term high-resolution bottom temperature time series to investigate warming impacts from the late 1950s to 2020. This product could also provide key quantitative information regarding the thermal state of benthic environments over multiple decades.

Description:

Two ocean products are combined, a regional ocean model (ROMS-NWA) and a global ocean data assimilated models (GLORYS12v1) to build a high-resolution, long-term bottom temperature product for the northeast U.S. continental shelf between 1959 and 2020. ROMS-NWA is bias-corrected using monthly decadal climatologies from ocean observations. Model skill was assessed using a large number of in situ observations. This performance assessment is presented in du Pontavice et al. 2023.
