Each file is a binary formatted instrument file. Kongsberg/Simrad .raw files are generated by ME70, EK60, EK80 or ES60 instruments. They contain power and optionally angular position data with each beam/frequency identified by an independent channel. The .wcd files are generated by Kongsberg EM302, EM122 or EM710 instruments. Additional file types from other instruments exist in this bucket. See instrument specific documentation for more information.

Lineage

Lineage Statement:

Acoustic measurements were collected with a Simrad EK80 scientific echosounder (Bodholt and Solli 1992, Simrad 2018).

Data were collected with five split-beam transducers (18, 38, 70, 120, and 200 kHz)

from 16 m below the sea surface to within 0.5 m of the sounder-detected bottom or a maximum of

1,000 m in deep water. Raw acoustic data were recorded using EK80 software, and analyzed using Echoview post-processing software.

CC ID: 1403613
Identifier: Simrad EK80
Docucomp UUID: cfc2ac19-b32a-4753-a934-efe8a57cc496
Instrument / Gear: Instrument
Instrument Type: echosounder
Description:

The Simrad EK80 is the most modern "high end" split beam scientific echo sounder in the fishery scientific market. Based on more than 60 years of research and development in close collaboration with leading marine scientists this wide band echo sounder system has succeeded the famous EK60, which became an international standard for fish stock assessment. The Simrad EK80 can operate a large number of frequencies simultaneously ranging from 10 to 500 kHz. A wide selection of high quality accurate transducers is available.

Platform 1

CC ID: 1403614
Identifier: Oscar Dyson (DY)
Docucomp UUID: a24caa2a-1c39-41b9-ba7a-eede10ccc4f6
Description:

the Oscar Dyson supports NOAA's mission to protect, restore and manage the use of living marine, coastal, and ocean resources through ecosystem-based management. Its primary objective is as a support platform to study and monitor Alaskan pollock and other fisheries, as well as oceanography in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. The ship also observes weather, sea state, and other environmental conditions, conducts habitat assessments, and surveys marine mammal and marine bird populations.
