An email provides a link to the customized data, while the original data set is available through a link within the viewer. download Original Product: Raster data of a hydroflattened Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data covering the Western Wildfire Unit 2 project areas. Original Geographic Extent: This dataset and derived products encompass a combined area covering approximately 1,176 square miles of forested land located in parts of the following counties: Clatsop, Tillamook, Washington, Columbia, Lincoln, Benton, Marion, Clackamas, and Linn. Original Dataset Description: Lidar flight line swaths were processed to create 3,951 classified LAS 1.4 files delineated in 3000ft x 3000ft tiles. Each LAS file contains lidar point information, which has been calibrated, controlled, and classified. Class 2 (ground, unflagged) lidar points in conjunction with the hydro breaklines were used to create 3,951 1-foot hydro-flattened Raster DEMs delineated in 3000ft x 3000ft tiles. Non-Vegetated Vertical Accuracy (NVA) was assessed using 75 check points located on bare earth in clear, unobstructed areas. Vegetated Vertical Accuracy (VVA) was assessed using 66 check points in tall grass, forest, and shrub land cover types. Conditions at time of acquisition: free of snow, smoke, fog and cloud cover. This metadata record supports the data entry in the NOAA Digital Coast Data Access Viewer (DAV). For this data set, the DAV is leveraging the GeoTIFF files hosted by USGS on Amazon Web Services. The purpose of the lidar data was to produce a high accuracy 3D dataset that meets all necessary standards laid out by the 3D Elevation Program and the Oregon Department of Forestry contract. The lidar point cloud data were used to create classified lidar LAS files, hydro-flattened DEMs, maximum surface height surface models, and 3D breaklines of rivers and lakes within the study area. Vertical Positional Accuracy This data set was produced to meet ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standard for Digital Geospatial Data (2014) for a 10-cm RMSEz Vertical Accuracy Class. Nonvegetated (NVA) and Vegetated (VVA) checkpoints were independently surveyed to assess final accuracy. USGS Determined DEM Vertical Accuracy: Non-Vegetated Vertical Accuracy (NVA) = 4.8 cm RMSE Vegetated Vertical Accuracy (VVA) = 26.73 cm at the 95th Percentile Completeness Report A visual qualitative assessment was performed to ensure data completeness. No void areas or missing data exist. The raw point cloud is of good quality and data passes Non-Vegetated Vertical Accuracy specifications. Conceptual Consistency DEM files were tested by GeoTerra for vertical accuracy. All data is seamless from one tile to the next and contain no gaps or no-data areas. The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) ingested references to the USGS GeoTIFF files that are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), into the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer (DAV). The DAV accesses the raster data as it resides on AWS. Lidar Pre-Processing: 1. Review all flight data to ensure accuracy of the laser points and complete coverage of the project area. 2. Perform corrections for aircraft position data using Precise Point Positioning (PPP) method. 3. Develop a smoothed best estimate of trajectory (SBET) file that blends post-processed aircraft position with sensor head position and attitude recorded throughout the survey. 4. Calculate laser point position by associating SBET position to each laser point return time, scan angle, intensity, etc. Create raw laser point data for the entire survey in *.las format. Convert data to orthometric elevations by applying a Geoid 12b correction. 5. Import raw point data into manageable blocks to perform relative accuracy calibration and filter erroneous points. Auto-classify ground points for individual flight lines. 6. Perform automated line-to-line calibrations for system attitude parameters (pitch, roll, heading), mirror flex (scale) and GPS/IMU drift. Calculate calibrations on ground classified points from paired flight lines and apply results to all points in a flight line. Calculate relative line-to-line data accuracy after final adjustment. 7. Apply final positional adjustment to the point cloud by comparing ground classified points to surveyed ground control points. 2022-12-01T00:00:00 Lidar Post-Processing: 1. After completion of classification and final QC, calculate final density and final ground fit statistics for NVA, VVA, using field surveyed QC checkpoints. 2024-05-26T00:00:00 Hydro-flattening Breaklines and Hydro-flattened DEM creation: Water boundaries were manually derived for rivers and stremas wider than 100 feet, water bodies greater than 2 acres in size, and bridge decks by reviewing ground-classified Lidar with intensity values in a 3D environment. Lakes were assigned a consistent elevation for an entire polygon while rivers were assigned consistent elevations on opposing banks to ensure downstream flow through the entire river channel. Resulting breaklines were incorporated into the DEM to produce a hydro-flattened surface model by enforcing elevation values derived from the breakline to correct the interpolation along the hard water edges.
