information
These data show the locations of in-service and out-of-service submarine cables that are owned by members of NASCA and located in U.S. territorial waters. More information on the cables can be found in the "Source Info" under the Uses and Metadata link. Other cables may exist in U.S. waters that are owned by non-NASCA members; those may be found in the "NOAA Charted Submarine Cables" dataset. Cable locations within 100 meters of land were removed from the dataset at the request of NASCA. Data shown here are not available for download at the request of the owners. Additional information can be found at http://www.n-a-s-c-a.org/; those requiring more detailed submarine telecom cable charting information are requested to submit any requests for information to CableCharts@n-a-s-c-a.org.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy
Source data for cable locations are based upon the best available information from cable owners and NASCA members. Data are considered authoritative and no testing was conducted on cable locations, except to confirm that cable segments were screened out within 100 meters of landfall. Tile cache service positional accuracy is based upon the precision inherent within ArcGIS Server's tiling scheme.
Completeness Report
This web service shows cable systems in U.S. territorial waters that are under NASCA jurisdiction. Cable segments which extend beyond the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) were eliminated; however in general cables which exited and then reentered U.S. waters were retained. One cable which makes landfall outside the EEZ just south of California was retained, and trans-oceanic cables in the Pacific Ocean were cut off at a longitude of -180 degrees. This web service does not contain information on submarine cables not under the jurisdiction of NASCA.
Conceptual Consistency
All cable segments are topologically consistent.
Submarine cable locations were received as Route Position Lists (RPLs) from NASCA and in geospatial format from Pacific Marine Systems, which generated GIS products from the same RPL information. The geospatial data was compared with the NASCA RPLs to ensure cable segments were screened out within 100 meters of the landfall location. Cable segments that extended west beyond -180 were removed, and cables that exited and did not reenter U.S. territorial waters were clipped at the EEZ boundary. Cables that exited and reentered U.S. territorial waters remained intact.
NASCA cables in the Mid-Atlantic were styled for publication as a tile cache service on ArcGIS Server using cartographic rendering techniques and annotation at select scales. Annotation was created at the scales 1:577791, 1:288895, and 1:144448, and where necessary were manually place along cable segments. Published charts from NASCA's website were used as a guide during the styling process to ensure cable name and owner were depicted accurately.
2015-04-22T00:00:00
Upon completion of a review for the Mid-Atlantic tile cache by NOAA and NASCA personnel, this process was extended to all nationwide NASCA cables.
