Juneau, AK — In recognition of Alaska Senator Ted Steven’s contributions to Alaska’s valuable fisheries, and to celebrate Ted Stevens Day, NOAA Fisheries will host an Open House Friday, July 24, 2:30-7 p.m. at the Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute here in Juneau.
In 2011, the Alaska Legislature designated the fourth Saturday in July each year as Ted Stevens Day. This year’s Ted Stevens Day falls on July 25.
NOAA scientists will lead guided tours at the NOAA Fisheries Open House. The event will also feature exhibits on research projects at the lab, touch tanks, an appearance by Sammy the Sea Otter, as well as information booths hosted by Alaska seafood and fishing organizations, and other groups that work to protect Alaska’s fisheries and marine resources.

- UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences
- Sitka Sound Science Center
- USCG U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
This NOAA Open House will allow Alaskans to observe first hand Senator Stevens’ contributions to managing and protecting Alaska’s vitally important fisheries. The Ted Stevens Foundation will provide refreshments.
TSMRI is one of NOAA’s leading science facilities and is the headquarters of the Auke Bay Laboratories, a division of Alaska Fisheries Science Center.
