NOAA’s National Seafood Inspection Laboratory specializes in quantitative analysis for food safety and environmental monitoring and conducts DNA extraction and next-generation genome sequencing.
Capabilities
- Pathogen Testing: microbiological analysis for Salmonella, Vibrio species, Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and other pathogens.
- Indicator Organisms: automated enumeration of Aerobic Plate Count, Coliforms, Yeast/Mold, and Enterobacteriaceae.
- Regulatory Support: provides analysis for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point compliance and laboratory analysis for export certification including Salmonella, Enterobacteriaceae and ruminant testing to meet European Union and international regulatory standards for foreign commerce.
- Genomic Sequencing: eDNA extraction (specializing in Marine environments), whole genome sequencing, metagenomics, preliminary bioinformatics and consulting to identify microbial diversity.
