Our research is principally concerned with cetacean, pinniped, seabird and marine turtle species that live or migrate off the coast of the northeastern United States. We also conduct research in support of endangered U.S. Atlantic salmon populations and the ecosystems that support these iconic fish. We focus our research on the distribution, ecological relationships, and human interactions of these species. By understanding their life history, listening for them, and reducing risks of harm posed by human activities, we can protect rare and vulnerable marine species, as required by the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Magnuson-Stevens Act.
