Current Research

Ron Johnson currently manages the Aquaculture Research Program at NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center in Seattle, WA.  His research interests include finding promising alternative feed ingredients to replace fishmeal and fish oil in aquaculture feeds.  Current research activities include optimizing the nutrient composition and palatability of plant based feeds for sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria), an emerging aquaculture species in the Pacific Northwest.  Other research has characterized the impact of alternative feed lipids on the growth and nutrient composition of sablefish and coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch).
