Species Information System

October 23, 2017

The Species Information System (SIS) database serves as the national repository for stock assessment results, status determination results, and annual catch limit information.

The Species Information System collects and manages regional and national data across NOAA Fisheries program offices. It provides our scientists, resource managers, and policy coordinators with applications for data entry, retrieval, and report generation. SIS is only accessible to NOAA Fisheries staff.

The data housed within the system includes the most up-to-date information on the status of managed stocks and stock assessment results, as well as other important associated information. This information is necessary to support services we provide to fisheries conservation and management efforts.

Members of the public can access the data stored in SIS through our public-facing user interface, The Stock Status, Management, Assessments, and Resource Trends portal (Stock SMART). In Stock SMART, you can navigate, access, visualize, compare, and download information from thousands of fisheries stock assessments records stored in SIS.
