2015 Seabird Interactions and Mitigation Efforts in Hawaii Longline FIsheries

January 26, 2017

An annual review of seabird interactions and mitigation efforts in the Hawaii shallow-set and deep-set fisheries.

Among many management objectives, the NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands Regional Office attempts to reduce, as practicable, interactions between Hawaii pelagic longline fishing operations and seabirds. NOAA Fisheries monitors the fisheries to determine the effectiveness of management measures to reduce interactions and the severity of interactions that do occur. NOAA Fisheries documents interactions and mitigation efforts aboard vessels at sea, and reports annually on fishing effort, seabird interactions, and mitigation research.
