Environmental Assessment/Regulatory Impact Review for the Proposal to Create Districts Within the Aleutian Islands Management Subarea - Amendment 28 to the Groundfish of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Plan

June 08, 1993

Analysis of establishing districts within the Aleutian Islands.

This environmental assessment/regulatory impact review is an analysis of the efficacy and the potential biological and socioeconomic impacts of establishing districts within the AI.  The creation of districts within the subarea could potentially provide for the apportionment of TACs for any groundfish species.  However, only Atka mackerel was included in the analysis because (1) Atka mackerel is the only species for which sufficient biological information currently exits on which to establish separate ABCs within the AI, and (2) industry demand for an increase in availability of Atka mackerel in 1993 is high.
