Tagging sea turtles around the world to learn more about their migratory patterns, growth rates, survival, and reproductive output.
Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags are passive electronic tags that are uniquely coded. They are a very small, (slightly larger than a grain of rice) minimally invasive tag that is injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly. The Marine Turtle Ecology & Assessment Program maintains a supply and database of PIT tags, applicators and scanners. When resources permit, we supply PIT tags to researchers and projects.
Requests for PIT tags and scanners can be made by contacting Garrett Lemons. Requests should include information on the project, location, number needed and shipping address.
