Description: |
Bottom trawl nets are designed to capture target species at or near the seafloor. They consist of a funnel-shaped net towed behind a boat to capture fish. The cod end, or ‘bag,’ is the fine-meshed portion of the net most distant from the towing vessel where fish and other organisms larger than the mesh size are retained. |
