Description:

Longline fishing is a type of hook-and-line gear in which baited hooks attached to a mainline or ‘groundline’ are deployed from a vessel. The length of the longline and the number of hooks depend on the species targeted, the size of the vessel used, and the purpose of the fishing activity.
