Description:

Benthic corers are used to collect sediment and associated benthic invertebrate samples. A common type of benthic corer consists of a plastic cylinder that is pressed vertically into the sediment. Once the corer has been inserted far enough into the substrate, the top of the cylinder is capped and the corer along with the sediment sample can be pulled out far enough to cap the bottom of the tube.
