Instrument Information

Identifier: Atlas Hydrosweep DS-2
Docucomp UUID: 7318b3fd-823d-42a8-8a74-293c88256f87
Instrument / Gear: Instrument
Instrument Type: Multibeam Echosounder
Description:

The ATLAS HYDROSWEEP DS-2 is an upgrade of the ATLAS HYDROSWEEP DS high resolution multibeam echosounder ideally suited for seabed mapping in deep water up to full ocean depth based on a sonar frequency between 14 kHz to 16 kHz. Beside bathymetric depth information from 10 m to more than 11,000 m, sidescan data and backscatter data for seabed classification are acquired. The ATLAS HYDROSWEEP DS-2 does not only gather sea floor information, but also uses adaptive bottom tracking windows to identify sonar targets in the water column and can be operated as a parametric sub-bottom profiler without additional transducers and electronics. The ATLAS HYDROSWEEP DS-2 provides 59 hardbeams and up to 240 softbeams (usually 140) of data. Acoustic footprints can be arranged in either "equal-angle" or "equal-distant" pattern over the 90 to 120 degree swath. The ATLAS HYDROSWEEP DS-2 is no longer in production. The current model is the ATLAS HYDROSWEEP DS-3.
