Description: |
The Kongsberg EM 12 is a multibeam echo sounder that operates at 13 kHz. The EM 12 is primarily used for seabed mapping and is capable of full ocean depth. By the use of interferometric signal processing techniques, it achieves an ultra wide swath geometry of 150 degrees. The bathymetry is automatically stored on write-only optical disk, thus ensuring the safekeeping of the measured data, and positioning data which is transferred to the EM12 via a serial line, may also be stored. In addition to the bathymetry, the system produces a fully corrected side-scan sonar image of the seafloor by utilizing two pulse lengths (2 msec in a shallow mode and 10 msec in deep mode). |
