Instrument / Gear: Instrument
Instrument Type: Multibeam Echosounder
Description:

The SeaBat 8125 is a 455 kHz Ultra-High Resolution Focused Multibeam Echosounder System that measures the relative water depth across a wide swath perpendicular to a vessel's track. The 8125 system illuminates a swath on the sea floor that is 120 degrees across track by 1 degree along track. The swath consists of 240 individual beams spaced at 0.5 degrees with a bottom detection range resolution of 0.6 cm. The SeaBat 8125 was first released in 2000 and is still in production. The newer models contain an upgrade of the sonar processor which allows the system to produce up to 512 beams in operator selectable modes. The upgrade, known as the SeaBat 8125-H, includes features such as roll stabilization, high density footprints, high quality data output, and a fully automated operational mode.
