Description:

Seirios is a 6,000m rated camera platform designed for ocean exploration as part of a two-body tethered system. As a stainless steel framed platform of cameras, lights, and sensors, Seirios operates from the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer (R337) along with the ROV Deep Discoverer. Attached to the ship by the electro-optical-mechanical 0.68 cable, Seirios carries an articulated HD camera and six 400W HMI lights for video production and improved lighting for D2. Fore and aft lateral thrusters enable Seirios to turn 360 degrees to maintain illumination in a desired direction. Seirios can also move laterally, within the constraints of the its cable. With the ROV attached by a 30m neutrally buoyant tether, one significant reason for utilizing Seirios in this two-body configuration is to decouple Deep Discoverer from the ship's motion. A suite of sensors provide real-time measurements of conductivity, temperature, depth, pressure, and more transmitted through high speed fiber optic communications.
