Abstract

This study describes several aspects of the charter fishing experience, including patrons' motivations for coming to Hawaii and going charter fishing, their related expenses, valuation of the fishing experience in dollar terms, and the characteristics of the quality of the fishing experience. Information was obtained by distributing mail-in survey instruments to patrons at the end of their fishing trips taken during 1999-2001.

Data Quality

Representativeness:

Data were collected from charter boat anglers. There are no records of population size and no efforts are made to extend conclusions to the population level.

Quality Control Procedures Employed:

After the data were recorded through primary in-person data collection methods (paper), data were entered into the data entry file (MS Excel spreadsheet). The data were assessed for outliers and cleaned. Finally, the cleaned data were used to generate data reports and summaries.

Data Management

Have Resources for Management of these Data Been Identified?: Yes
Approximate Percentage of Budget for these Data Devoted to Data Management: Unknown
Do these Data Comply with the Data Access Directive?: Yes
Is Access to the Data Limited Based on an Approved Waiver?: No
Approximate Delay Between Data Collection and Dissemination: none
Actual or Planned Long-Term Data Archive Location: No Archiving Intended
If To Be Determined, Unable to Archive, or No Archiving Intended, Explain:

These data are Legacy data. Efforts to disseminate can be arranged upon request, but the data are currently out of scope for the Data directive.

Approximate Delay Between Data Collection and Archiving: not applicable
How Will the Data Be Protected from Accidental or Malicious Modification or Deletion Prior to Receipt by the Archive?:

Data is securely stored in PIFSC's server with password protection.

Only staff who work on the project can access to the data.
