Title: Stock Assessment Improvment Plan Update
Short Name: Stock Assessment Improvment Plan
Status: In Work
Abstract:

The Stock Assessment Improvement Plan document will detail programmatic needs for the NMFS stock assessment enterprise to move towards a next generation stock assessment framework. The Next Generation Stock Assessment enterprise will be timely, thorough, prioritized, transparent, and incorporate advanced technology.

Purpose:

In 2001 NOAA?s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) published the Marine Fish Stock Assessment Improvement Plan (SAIP) with the goal of improving accuracy, precision and timeliness of stock assessments by providing guidance on how to address data gaps and programmatic needs. Twelve years later, the NMFS is in the process of updating the SAIP to adjust its stock assessment enterprise to meet changing demands and take advantage of new operational and technological advancements. A working group was chosen to author this document. The group consists of scientists from the NMFS science centers and regions and include candidates with both stock assessment science and ecosystem science backgrounds.
