Item Identification

Title: Pinniped Identifcations on Platforms
Short Name: Pinniped Identifcations on Platforms
Status: Completed
Abstract:

Identifications of pinnipeds (primarily California sea lions) identified and counted from images from camera systems on oil and gas platforms in the San Pedro Bay, the Santa Barbara Channel, and the Santa Maria Basin in the southern California Bight. Individuals were identified to a specific age-sex class, when possible. Those not identified were considered "unknown".

Purpose:

Counts of identified animals were used to generate hourly, daily, and monthly means of animals using the platforms (total and by age-sex class). Inter-platform comparisons made to examine spatial trends in animal usage. Intra-platform comparisons made to examine temporal changes.
