Abstract

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20170624 - 20170722 with a Trimble Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution to support the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

Item Identification

Title: 2017 NOAA NGS Ortho-rectified Mean High Water Near-Infrared Mosaic of Western Cook Inlet, Alaska
Short Name: AK1707_mhw_nir m8443
Status: Completed
Publication Date: 2017-12-14
Abstract:

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20170624 - 20170722 with a Trimble Digital Sensor System (DSS). The original images were acquired at a higher resolution to support the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

Purpose:

Ortho-rectified mosaic tiles are an ancillary product of NOAA's Coastal Mapping Program (CMP), created through a wider Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping initiative to increase support for multiple uses of the data.

Supplemental Information:

The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 0.35 m. The imagery was tide coordinated at the time of acquisition. Image artifacts are present in some sections of the ortho-rectified imagery.

Data Quality

Horizontal Positional Accuracy:

The accuracy of the data is plus or minus 1.5 m at at the 95% circular error confidence level.

Quantitation Limits:

The horizontal positional accuracy and the assurance of that accuracy are dependent upon the accuracy of the data inputs to the rectification process. These data inputs include the digital elevation model (DEM), accuracy of control, and methodology used to georeference the imagery that meet NOAA's Coastal Mapping Program standards.

Process Steps

Process Step 1

CC ID: 1311333
Description:

Mosaic's were generated from the near-infrared ortho-rectified imagery using OrthoVista. Pyramids are built in during this step. Mosaic data have not been histogram stretched and only minimal near-infrared balancing has been performed. The images are in 8 bit NIR. The DEM source is 30 meter posting USGS NED. Cubic convolution resampling method was used to create the final ortho-rectified mosaic. Original image tiles are 2.5 km by 2.5 km squares.
