Abstract

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20161030 - 20161123 with an Ultracam LP. The original images were acquired at a higher resolution to support the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

Title: 2016 NOAA NGS Ortho-rectified Mosaic of Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket Islands, MA
Status: Completed
Publication Date: 2017-11-30
Abstract:

This data set contains ortho-rectified mosaic tiles, created as a product from the NOAA Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping (IOCM) initiative. The source imagery was acquired from 20161030 - 20161123 with an Ultracam LP. The original images were acquired at a higher resolution to support the final ortho-rectified mosaic.

Purpose:

Photos were acquired by Leading Edge Geomatics in order to generate ortho-rectified mosaic tiles. These are ancillary products of NOAA's Coastal Mapping Program (CMP), created through a wider Integrated Ocean and Coastal Mapping initiative to increase support for multiple uses of the data.

Supplemental Information:

The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 0.25 m. The imagery was taken within 25% of the mean range of tide around MLLW.

Data Quality

Horizontal Positional Accuracy:

The aerotriangulation accuracy of the data is plus or minus 0.1 m at the 95% confidence circle for Marthas Vinyeard and 0.2 m at the 95% confidence circle for Nantucket Island.

Quantitation Limits:

The horizontal accuracy statement reported in the analysis of results is based on the predicted circular horizontal accuracy of adjusted points in the aerotriangulation solution. This circular accuracy equals the radius of the 95% confidence circle as calculated from the horizontal (x and y) root-mean-square (RMS) values of the standard deviations for all triangulated ground points (17,543 total points), rounded to the nearest tenth of a meter.

Process Steps

Process Step 1

CC ID: 1311601
Description:

The 6 micron digital images were left uncompressed and further processed to include overviews for softcopy aero-triangulation. The softcopy analytical AT was done using Inpho Match-AT. The process included automatic point matching (measuring) and a least-squares-simultaneous-robust bundle-block adjustment. The point matching and bundle adjustment were done as one block of photos. The automatic point matching was done in photos along a strip and in photos of overlapping strips. The photo coordinates from point matching are used with the INS exposure stations and ground-surveyed control in the robust bundle-block adjustment, which automatically detects and removes any large point-matching errors. Visualization tools within Inpho Match-AT were used for evaluation of the aerial triangulation adjustment, providing a display of the image and point residuals and connections between frames. Weak points and blunders were identified and corrected. The final bundle adjustments for the image blocks were computed in ISAT as full-covariance simultaneous solutions, allowing for the output of standard deviation values for all triangulated points.
