Summary

Description

Species-specific targeting within the deep7 bottomfish fishery in the main Hawaiian Islands are not clearly indicated within fishery dependent data collections. The lack of targeting information complicates analysis of fishing effort and relative abundance trends for any single species within the dataset. Information on fishing practices, including the species targeted, were collected by contracted fishermen between March and November 2015 in waters around the Main Hawaiian Islands as part of usual fishing activities. The goal of this study was to provide information, including the factors, behaviors, or species groupings associated with targeting individual species, with the intent to apply the findings from this dataset to the larger fishery dependent dataset.

Title: Day-Night Bottomfish Sampling
Status: Completed
Abstract:

Purpose:

Provide detailed fishing information on daytime and nighttime fishing activities in sites around Oahu and Maui and Big Island selected by fishermen and using normal fishing operations.

Notes:

Work done with contractor as part of their contract NFFR7400-14-02019 for the day/night activity.
