Title: American Samoa Small Boat Fishery Cost-Earnings Survey Data: 2021
Status: In Work
Publication Date: 2023-07
Abstract:

These data represent a cost-earnings study of the American Samoa small boat fishery. The data were collected in 2021 regarding 2020 fishing operations. Data collected include fisher classification, vessel characteristics, levels of investment, trip-level expenditures, fishing behavior, market participation, social aspects of the fishery, and demographics.

Purpose:

The purpose of the cost-earnings study was to update our understanding of the economic and social characteristics of the American Samoa small boat fishery. Collection of these baseline data provides managers with an updated understanding of potential behavioral responses and impacts from future fishing regulations.

Data Quality

Representativeness:

The surveys completed are generally representative of cost-earnings for American Samoa small boat fishing operations during 2020.

Quality Control Procedures Employed:

After the data were recorded through primary in-person data collection methods (paper), data were entered into the data entry file (CSV file). The entered data were subject to logic tests and appropriate skip patterns. The data were assessed for outliers and cleaned. Finally, the cleaned data were used to generate data reports and summaries.

Data Management

Have Resources for Management of these Data Been Identified?: Yes
Approximate Percentage of Budget for these Data Devoted to Data Management: Unknown
Do these Data Comply with the Data Access Directive?: Yes
Is Access to the Data Limited Based on an Approved Waiver?: Yes
Approximate Delay Between Data Collection and Dissemination: No delay expected
If Delay is Longer than Latency of Automated Processing, Indicate Under What Authority Data Access is Delayed:

No delay expected

Actual or Planned Long-Term Data Archive Location: No Archiving Intended
If To Be Determined, Unable to Archive, or No Archiving Intended, Explain:

These data are Sensitive (business information). Efforts to disseminate can be arranged upon request, but the data are currently out of scope for the Data directive.

Approximate Delay Between Data Collection and Archiving: No delay expected
How Will the Data Be Protected from Accidental or Malicious Modification or Deletion Prior to Receipt by the Archive?:

Data is securely stored in PIFSC's server with password protection.

Only staff who work on the project can access to the data.

Lineage

Lineage Statement:

After the data were recorded through in-person primary data collection methods (paper), data were entered into the data entry file (CSV file). The entered data were subject to logic tests and appropriate skip patterns. The data were assessed for outliers and cleaned. Finally, the cleaned data were used to generate data reports and summaries.
