Type of retrieval monitoring. In most operations, selected net sections were monitored as the full complement of gear was retrieved during a single haul event on the day setting was completed. In roughly 3% of operations, exceptionally high squid catches or other adverse conditions prevented hauling of all the gear on the day it was set; in these cases some sections were left to soak longer, even while new operations were started. In these extended retrieval or "Tomi Ami" operations, hauling was spread over 1-3 days.
