Title: Marine Development and Ecology Branch
Short Name: Marine Development and Ecology Branch (MDEB)
Status: In Work
Creation Date: 2024-10-01
Abstract:

The Marine Development and Ecology Branch (MDEB) has a proven track record of innovation and trust in supporting fishing communities and science to boost the marine fisheries economy. In collaboration with fishing industry partners, we assess the ability of commercial and recreational fisheries to operate and maintain sustainable businesses within marine development areas, including offshore energy. We design initiatives based on industry co-development principles to advance scientific surveys and improve the assessment of fisheries and living marine resources. MDEB staff also conduct research on the interactions between marine development and keystone species that support the ecosystem, influencing fisheries productivity and the conservation of protected resources.
