Abstract: |
The Post-Cruise Questionnaire is a mandatory post trip legal document that observers fill out after every trip they have completed. |
Purpose: |
The purpose of the Post-Cruise Questionnaire is inform the observer program whether the observer experienced any problems or situations during his/her trip such harassment, interference, intimidations, receiving unwanted verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, not being permitted to collect sea turtle specimens, interpersonal conflicts, observer gear taken by crew against his/her will, being encouraged to falsify data, incurred any injuries, no wheel watches by the crew and encountering. Observers also address data collection issues such as whether he/she was able to collect samples, take photograph and how he/she collected hook count, morphometrics, temperatures, positions and whether any data were given to or obtained from the captain. Finally observers report any information about the vessel such as food sanitation, sleeping conditions, disposition of the crew, ventilation or temperature inside the vessel, general safety and any other helpful information that could be helpful to the next observer assigned to that same vessel. |
Notes: |
The Post-Cruise Questionnaire was filled out on paper from 1994 to 2004 at which point it was transferred to an MS Access Database. In August 2013 the MS Access database was retired as the Post-Cruise Questionnaire was included as the "Post Cruise" Data Entity in the Dataset "Pacific Islands Region Observer Program System" (PIROPS). Please refer to this Dataset for additional info. |
