Instrument / Gear: Instrument
Instrument Type: Multibeam Echosounder
Description:

The SeaBat 9003 is a 455 kHz Multibeam Echosounder System that measures the relative water depth across a wide swath perpendicular to a vessel's track. The 9003 system uses 40 individual sonar beams, each measuring 3 degrees by 1.5 degrees, to create a 120 degree swath width. Although the SeaBat 9003 can transmit the signal to a distance of 200 meters, the system was designed to International Hydrographic Organization standards to measure the seafloor to a maximum depth of 75 meters. The SeaBat 9003, developed in the early 1990's, was produced until the mid-2000's.
