Bottomfish Fishing Locations

Bottomfish Sampling data collected on research cruises aboard the Oscar Elton Sette (OES/SE). Additional information about physical specimens collected during OES/SE cruises conducted within waters surrounding the Main and Northwestern Hawaiian Islands can be found in the Bottomfish Sampling Data dataset. THIS IS THE GENERAL LAYOUT FOR FISHING LOCATION DATA, which VARIES DEPENDING ON THE PROJECT (IF TRAPPING OCCURRED OR BOTCAM WAS USED, TAGGING, SHARK DOCUMENTATION ETC.) MODIFIED SLIGHTLY FOR EACH CRUISE DEPENDING ON OBJECTIVES. USED ON ALL RESEARCH CRUISES ABOARD THE SETTE REGARDLESS OF LOCATION (MHI, JOHNSTON, MARIANA ISLANDS ETC.) AND SMALL BOAT FISHING OPS.

To keep track of the additional information regarding specimens caught aboard the Sette during bottomfish-specific research cruises.

This dataset includes supplemental information not included in the BFSAMP dataset i.e. fishing locations for the begin and end of every single drift made.

Original documents created during each research cruise are stored in the FRMD storage room and electronic files reside at the IRC.

Fishing locations and data gathered in the field were recorded on paper. The original documents have been archived with SIS; copies of these were made and stored at the IRC. An Excel Spreadsheet containing all information on the hand-written documents can be found on the shared drive.
