HMSRP Hawaiian Monk Seal Captive Care Records

This data set contains husbandry, feeding, and health related records collected during Hawaiian monk seal captive care programs. Captive care and release projects have been initiated to improve pup survival, and thereby increase the population growth rate. This initiative is part of a broader strategy of monk seal scientific research and recovery carried out by the PIFSC Hawaiian monk seal Research Program.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is the lead agency responsible for the recovery of the Hawaiian monk seal. The NMFS Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, Protected Species Division, Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program (HMSRP) has initiated captive care and release projects to improve pup survival, and thereby increase the population growth rate. This initiative is part of a broader strategy of monk seal scientific research and recovery by the PIFSC HMSRP.
