North and South Pacific Albacore Troll and Pole-and-line Size Composition

The North Pacific Albacore Troll and Pole-and-line size composition data are collected from three data sources:

- A port sampling program in which state samplers in the major unloading ports measure fish as they are unloaded from vessels

- A small program in which captains and crew measure fish onboard troll fishing vessels

- A historic voluntary observer program in which observers measured fish onboard fishing vessels between years 1990 and 2000.

South Pacific albacore size composition data are collected by NMFS port samplers in American Samoa when vessels unload there.

These data are collected for use in stock assessments on north Pacific albacore, research, and to fulfill reporting obligations of Pacific RFMOs and the USA-Canada Treaty.

Size data are collected by port samplers when vessels unload their fish for sale. Sampling data include unloading weights.

Historical data included catch month and location but these are not reliable.
