Summary
Release-3.x features the following enhancements:
? Re-engineering the InPort system architecture in order to migrate off legacy Oracle Forms which has become difficult to maintain. This will be a major effort and is critical to the stability, usability and security of the system,
? Migration of user account management to the NMFS LDAP in order to reduce the burden on metadata librarians and users to manage login information,
? Identification of NMFS and NOAA requirements for reporting and analysis of NMFS metadata to develop possible user-functionality extensions for viewing and accessing metadata,
? Provision for continuous application life-cycle maintenance for InPort, including improvements and defect fixes to application modules as needed. This will ensure that InPort provides needed metadata to FIS for their efforts in developing data and application standards and for providing metadata as required through NMFS data access tools such as FIS FOSS. It also will ensure that InPort continues to serve as the NMFS authoritative metadata repository as defined in the NMFS Data and Information Policy Directive and the Data Documentation Procedural Directive.
