Abstract

The data (Appendix 1) describe multiple micro samples from 40 specimens. The data set first provides specimen identification information:

Specimen ID, estimated age, and AFSC RACE cruise number. Second, the data describes the milling and physical properties of each milled sampled, up to 42

samples per specimens: volume and mass. Finally, the data contain information and results from mass spectrometry analysis measuring d13C and d18O.

Distribution Information

Access Constraints:

The data set is still being analyzed and will not be available for distribution until it has been finalized and all QA/QC practices have been performed.

Title: AFSC/REFM: Alaskan Pacific cod 18 Oxygen age validation study
Short Name: AFSC/REFM: Alaskan Pacific cod 18 Oxygen age validation study
Status: In Work
Abstract:

The data (Appendix 1) describe multiple micro samples from 40 specimens. The data set first provides specimen identification information:

Specimen ID, estimated age, and AFSC RACE cruise number. Second, the data describes the milling and physical properties of each milled sampled, up to 42

samples per specimens: volume and mass. Finally, the data contain information and results from mass spectrometry analysis measuring d13C and d18O.

Purpose:

The purpose of this data set is to use stable to confirm the accuracy of Pacific cod ages estimated from otolith growthzones.

Data Quality

Accuracy:

Accuracy is evaluated in comparisons of fish size vs. age.

Completeness Report:

AFSC RACE surveys may not contain a representation of the smallest juvenile Pacific cod, because they are not able to sample the very near-shore areas.

Also, by careful design, our study did not

use specimens that were aged 6 years or older in the original age reading (final age)

Conceptual Consistency:

Data from RACE is proofed by normal protocols routinely used on survey data. Data generated by the Age and Growth program

(age estimates and associated codes) is proofed for typing errors, tested for precision with a 20% replicate.

Quality Control Procedures Employed:
