Summary

Description

Commercial Landings data for the Gulf State

The FIN "Commercial Landings" database stores landings data as captured by state "Commercial Dealers" which are reported by state "Commercial Fishermen". Currently, this is only 'Primary Fished" data. (Example: A commercial fishermen fishes in several areas during a single fishing day/trip. The area that was fished the longest is what the dealer reports as the Primary area. All species caught in that area as well as all other areas for that day/trip are totaled into this primary record.)

This data is then collected by the respective state, reviewed, and forwarded to the FIN warehouse for loading. It should be noted that FIN performs quality data checks but in relation, accepts this data "as is" from each state. The loaded data is then aggregated (Summarized by Year, State and Species) into a separate table for public access.

Abstract:

Purpose:

The FIN Data Management System (DMS) architecture consists of a three-layer model for input and output of data: an operational layer, the reconciled data layer, and the informational layer. A data reconciliation component and a data derivation component form bridges between the layers.

The FIN has implemented the DMS for the commercial and recreational catch/effort and biological sampling modules. The FIN Database Manager and the ComFIN survey coordinator are currently populating these modules with data. Plans are to continue development of the fishermen/dealer/vessel registration system procedures, and fishery modules. There are current commercial and recreational data from Texas through Florida in the system, as well as, historical data from NMFS. The DMS is opened to both confidential and non-confidential data users. FIN will continue to work with ACCSP to ensure compatibility and comparability.

Supplemental Information:

All the information collected under FIN is integrated and available through the FIN data management system. This system allows access to the data by fisheries managers, fishermen, scientists, the fishing industry and other interested parties according to confidentiality policies and protocols.
