Abstract

Paper logs are the primary data collection tool used by observers of the Northeast Fisheries Observer Program deployed on commercial fishing vessels. After the data collected on the paper are entered into a database, the paper logs are scanned for each trip. After all trips for a calendar year are scanned, they are archived at the National Archives and Records Administration.

Distribution Information

No Distributions available.

Access Constraints:

NEFSC Data Access Constraint:

If data is stored on an internal NEFSC network, the requester may not have direct access to query the data unless they are also authorized for network access.

Lineage

Lineage Statement:

Fishery observers and Industry funded scallop observers record trip, haul, catch and incidental take data on observed fishing trips using defined protocols. Preliminary observer data is entered electronically, complete observer data is entered on paper logs. Observers are debriefed by data editors. Data recorded manually is entered by the Fisheries Sampling Branch. Entered data is verified and extensively audited by the Fisheries Sampling Branch prior to database load. Data recorded manually is scanned into a database and available for view via website.
