Summary

Description

The Sustainable Fisheries Act mandated numerous science, management and conservation actions by the National Marine Fisheries Service, with the fundamental goals of preventing overfishing, rebuilding overfished stocks, protecting essential fish habitat, minimizing bycatch, enhanced research, and improved monitoring. The Sustainable Fisheries Division (SFD) implements the policy objectives of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council and manages fisheries in the Exclusive Economic Zone off Alaska.
