Abstract

The data is comprised of the records of individual male golden king crab (GKC) tagged at the Kodiak Laboratory. Initial size, shell condition and missing limbs was recorded. A record of the water temperature was also made. Each crab received a leg tag to provide identification. Half the crab also received a spaghetti identical to those applied in the field. Tagged and untagged crab were held in identical conditions.

Item Identification

Title: AFSC/RACE/SAP/Urban: Golden King Crab tagging
Short Name: AFSC/RACE/SAP/Urban: Golden King Crab tagging
Status: In Work
Abstract:

The data is comprised of the records of individual male golden king crab (GKC) tagged at the Kodiak Laboratory. Initial size, shell condition and missing limbs was recorded. A record of the water temperature was also made. Each crab received a leg tag to provide identification. Half the crab also received a spaghetti identical to those applied in the field. Tagged and untagged crab were held in identical conditions.

Purpose:

The purpose of the study is to provide empirical data to augment and collaborate data from long-term GKC tagging field projects conducted in the Aleutian Islands. Information on tagging mortality, tag shedding, and retention of the tags through a molting event is hoped to be acquired.
