Northeast Cooperative Research Study Fleet (SF) Program Combined GPS, Temperature/Depth, and Effort Fishery Dependent Data

Temperature, depth(TD), GPS and haul by haul effort and catch data are collected during normal fishing activity of commercial fishing vessels participating in the NEFSC Cooperative Research Study Fleet (SF) program. The GTE (GPS, Temperature/Depth, and Effort) procedure joins the temperature depth (TD), GPS and effort level electonic logbook data into one combined data set. This data set is then loaded and reviewed in an application for quality and is edited and coded appropriately. All sound data resulting from this review is moved to 'GTE_JOIN' table. In addition, a summary table 'GTE_EFFORTS' is maintained which, include calculations for various effort level statistics on the joined data such as, but not limited to, effort duration, distance towed, min, max, and average depth.

Joins the Temperature Depth (TD), GPS and Effort Level Electonic Logbook data into one combined dataset. The GTE dataset can be used to validate and improve oceaongraphic models as well as be used with catch data to analyse how TD temporarily and spaitially influence catch.

The GTE data is housed and managed using various support tables in the NEFSC Oracle database. An event code table 'GTE_CODES' defines the data quality issues encountered when GPS data is joined with TD and Effort data.

Formal data request form is filled out and sent to Point of Contact, reviewed with Cooperative Research Program Branch Chief for approval. If approved, data request form is signed, returned and archived.

NEFSC Data Access Constraint:

If data is stored on an internal NEFSC network, the requester may not have direct access to query the data unless they are also authorized for network access.

All effort where a join to TD and GPS was attempted is documented in GTE_LOAD_HISTORY. This table documents weather the join was successful or not and if not the possible reason why. This table has a supporting table "GTE_CODES"

An application is used to review, edit and code data quality issues. The codes are documented under the GTE_Code column in GTE_Efforts . Reference support table GTE_CODES.

NEFSC DMS protection plan (Scheduled backups and remote storage backups)

Data collection using Dell laptops with various models and operating systems running Northeast Fisheries Sceince Center Fisheries Logbook Data Recording Software (FLDRS). FVTR VERS tables, NERS TD tables and NERS GPS Polling tables are joined.
