Summary
A preliminary biological assessment was conducted at a site proposed for installation of an underwater electromagnetic measuring range (UEMMR) and three potential coral transplant recipient mounds in Apra Harbor, Guam. Large numbers of corals representing various species and colony sizes were encountered at the proposed UEMMR location with a mix of scattered and aggregated distributions observed. Coral species presence and abundance differed at the three transplant mounds, though a prevailing species noted at UEMMR appeared to dominate where spatially present. Coral formations often appear best developed along reef top perimeters and, in some cases, upper slopes, in the area of Apra Harbor that was surveyed. General observations on the site conditions and coral species encountered are presented along with project-specific concerns and recommendations.
