The year in which the landings or negative report occurred.

The field (month-document) used to link species and biological sampling data to the trip information. Length of the link field depends on the year: pre 1994 document numbers (DOCN) were 4 characters; post 1993, 6 characters. For 1994+ allocated data, for CFDETTyyyyAA and CFDETSyyyyAA, LINK = (dlrtrpid, month, docn, subtrip); VARCHAR2(35); For CFAGEyyyyAA and CFLENyyyyAA, 1994 to 2003, Link = (dlrtrpid, month, docn, subtrip); For CFAGEyyyyAA and CFLENyyyyAA, 2004 to present, LINK = (month,docn,tallyno,sampno,linkpad) where linkpad is 15 zeros.

The month (01-12) of the vessel landing or negative dealer report. 00 = unknown.

The quarter of the calendar year in which weighout occurred: 1=January-March; 2=April-June; 3=July-September; 4=October-December.

Number assigned to each weighout form, or negative dealer report; Unique within a month. For 1994+ allocated data , DOCN column width is expanded, VARCHAR2(15).

The dealer permit number assigned by the Northeast Regional Office Permit System (PERMIT). 00000=Unknown. Not available for 1994 in CFDBS data.

Day of month (01-31). Unknown=00. Day = 00 may indicate a consolidated trip that represents more than one trip.

A combined code for state, port and county. The port in which the vessel landed the catch.

The 2 digit numeric state code for the port of landing: <br> 07=CT; 08=DE; 22=ME; 23=MD; 24=MA; 32=NH; 33=NJ; 35=NY; 36=NC; 42=RI; 49=VA.

The 3rd and 4th digit of the port code--meaningless without the rest of the port code.

Name of county., ex.ESSEX.

Vessel permit number assigned by the Northeast Regional Office's Vessel Permit System (VPS). 000000=no permit or no vessel, check hull number; 190998=Unknown undertonnage vessel; 390998=Unknown tonnage vessel.

Official vessel registration number painted on the hull. U.S. Coast Guard, State, or Tribal registration number. Text field--State registrations begin with two character state code. Unknown=blank/null.

Northeast Gear code; 999=Unknown. See CFDBS Gear Table(GEAR) for actual codes. For 1994+ allocated data, negear is taken from the matched VTR trip when Area Level = A; negear is supplied by the Dealer when Area Level = B,C,D or X.

The 4-digit Northeast Species code; the fourth digit represents market category. See CFDBS Species Table (CFSPP) for actual codes. For discard species in the CFDISCyyyy and WODISCyy views, NESPP4 is redefined as NESPP3 preceded by a 9, e.g. yellowtail flounder is 9123.

The Northeast Species code, without the market category, i.e. the first 3 digits of NESPP4. See CFDBS Species Table (CFSPP) for actual codes.

The Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Statistical Area code. See CFDBS Area Table (AREA) for actual codes. For 1994+ allocated data, if Area Level = A then NEMAREA is from the VTR trip. If Area Level = B, C,D then AREA is selected from a group of VTR trips with similar trip characteristics on a probabilistic basis. If Area Level = X then AREA is unknown.

The NEMFIS Area, coded as the NAFO Statistical Area for federally collected data; a three digit code for internal state waters for state collected data. For 1994+ allocated data, if Area Level = A then NEMAREA is from the VTR trip. If Area Level = B, C,D then NEMAREA is selected from a group of VTR trips with similar trip characteristics on a probabilistic basis. If Area Level = X, then nemarea is unknown.

The pounds landed for a given species.

Indicates if the catch from which the sample was taken was: <br> 0=discarded, 1=kept.

The utilization code: 0=food fish or unknown; 2=aquaculture; 3=canned pet food (1984+); 4=Biomedical (2002+); 5=animal food (1984+); 7=bait; 8=industrial, other (2002+); 9=industrial, reduction.

The method used to sample the vessel's catch: 1=vessel or hold; 2=basket or bushel; 3=chute or conveyor; 4=cart,barrel,tub,large box; 5=bin, floor pile; 6=small box; 7=sorting table. See "Manual for Sampling, Interviewing and Coding for the Northeast Region" by R.I. Schultz.

The structure retained for age determination: 0=No structure taken; 1=Scale; 2=Otoliths; 3=Shells; 4=Pen; 5=Vertebra; 6=Dorsal spine.

Sex code: 0=unsexed; 1=male; 2=female.

Second vessel for paired gears. For Federal data, the 6-digit vessel number; for state data, the official US Coast Guard documentation number or a locally assigned number. 190998=unknown undertonnage vessel; 390998=unknown tonnage vessel; 000000=no vessel or unknown vessel. The number of specimens from which aging structures were removed for this sample.

The weight of specimens in sample.

NEMFIS area code for the area from which the sample was taken; may be different from the area recorded for the trip.
