Summary
Counts of diet items identified in fish stomach samples using a compound microscope. Diet includes invertebrates (larvae or nymph; pupae; adult) and fish from the stream, and adjacent terrestrial invertebrates that fall into stream. Objective of collecting these data were to establish baseline data on resident fish diets before provision of fish passage at the dam in 2003. Fish passage was installed to allow Pacific salmon access to the watershed above the dam for the first time in 100 yrs. For details on sample collection and processing see Kiffney, P. M., C. J. Volk, and J. Hall. 2002. Community and ecosystem attributes of the Cedar River and tributaries before arrival of anadromous salmonids. Technical report submitted to Seattle Public Utilities.
