Summary

Description

The Fish Ecology Division focuses on understanding the complex ecological linkages between commercially and recreationally important marine and anadromous fishery resources of the Pacific Northwest and their habitats. Particular emphasis is placed on investigation of the myriad biotic and abiotic factors that control growth, distribution, and survival of important species and on the processes driving short- and long-term population fluctuations.

The Fish Passage Program continues a long tradition of research and development to solve problems of anadromous fish passage on riverine systems impacted by dams and associated water regulation. The Riverine Survival and Migrational Behavior Programs focus on understanding migratory behavior of anadromous fish and the fundamental ecosystem processes affecting their growth and survival. The Estuarine and Ocean Ecology Program focuses on understanding the biotic and abiotic interactions in the estuarine and ocean environment that are the major sources of population variability.
