Abstract:

This personal geodatabase contains land and water masks (as rasters and polygons) for the remotely sensed data. It also contains a polygon feature class named: Spatial_Extent_Remote_Sensing_Data, which denotes the outer boundaries of all of the remote sensing data. All of these masks were derived directly from the remotely sensed imagery using geoprocessing functionality in ArcGIS 9.1.

Purpose:

These data were obtained and reprocessed to support the biogeographic assessment of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.

Description:

All of these masks were derived directly from the remotely sensed imagery in ArcGIS 9.1's Spatial Analyst. The raster masks were created by reclassifying the remotely sensed image 8 bit value = 252 (i.e., land) as 1, and all other 8 bit values as 0 (or vice versa). In order to create the polygon masks, the raster image was converted to a polygon, and then disolved based on the 8 bit value. The desired polygons (such as land) were then exported as separte feature classes.
