The NOAA Galveston Laboratory has been raising sea turtles in captivity from 1977 to 2019. During 2019 they had turtles from the class of 2018. They started out the year with 119 turtles from the class of 2018. On May 29, 2019, one turtle was reported dead. On May 30, 2019, the remaining 2018 turtles were shipped to the NOAA Facility in Panama City, Florida in preparation for their release. On June 17th, 2019 these 118 turtles were released in Fort Pierce Florida. This marked the end of the Galveston Turtle Program. |
