Summary

Description

The mission of the Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC) is to provide the scientific advice and data needed to effectively manage the living marine resources off the southeastern United States and Atlantic high seas. The scope of our charge is enormous, including hundreds of stocks harvested by millions of anglers across four Large Marine Ecosystems. We work with the Southeast Regional Office and NOAA Fisheries Highly Migratory Division to serve three federal fishery management councils (Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, and South Atlantic), two state commissions (Atlantic and Gulf), and the International Committee for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas. Our charge also includes the science to support habitat restoration and working with the Office of Protected Resources to conserve more than 90 stocks of dolphin, whales, sea turtles and other protected species. Meeting this mission will require unprecedented levels of collaboration, and clear priorities.
