Abstract

These data contain shipboard current magnitudes and directions collected in the Pacific, both pelagic and near shore environments. Data is collected using an RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), operating at 75 kHz frequency. The ADCP transducer is installed on a "blister" at the bottom of the ship's hull, pointing vertically down in the watercolumn.

Item Identification

Title: EOP Current Magnitude and Direction
Status: On Going
Creation Date: 2007
Revision Date: 2021-08-26
Abstract:

These data contain shipboard current magnitudes and directions collected in the Pacific, both pelagic and near shore environments. Data is collected using an RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), operating at 75 kHz frequency. The ADCP transducer is installed on a "blister" at the bottom of the ship's hull, pointing vertically down in the watercolumn.

Purpose:

ADCP current data obtained during shipboard surveys are used to study the current characteristics of specific mesoscale environments, such as mesoscale eddies and seamounts, and the effects of these environments on the ecosystem.
