These data depict the occurrence of submarine cables in and around U.S. navigable waters. The geographic extent of these data is greater than the "NASCA Submarine Cables" dataset. The purpose of these data products are to support coastal planning at the regional and national scale. These data are derived from 2017 NOAA Raster Navigational Charts (RNCs).


To support ocean planning activities pursuant to the Executive Order Regarding the Ocean Policy to Advance the Economic, Security, and Environmental Interests of the United States, the Energy Policy Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rivers and Harbors Act, and the Coastal Zone Management Act.

• In ArcMap, add image service from and local copy of the Raster Charts footprints • Heads up digitize all visible submarine cables visible on charts • Spatial Join cables data with footprint data to add attribute info • Delete all superfluous fields • Check geometry and project data into WGS 1984 Auxiliary Sphere
