Abstract

No metadata record for this data set was provided to the NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM). This record was created with information from the data report. A link to the data report is provided in the URL section of this metadata record.

This bare earth digital elevation model (DEM) represents the earth's surface with all vegetation and human-made structures removed in the OLC Siskiyou project area. Bare earth DEMs were derived from LiDAR data using TIN processing of the ground point returns. The DEM grid cell size is 3 feet.

The dataset encompasses 132,009 acres in portions of Jackson County in the state of Oregon. The bare earth digital elevation model (DEM) represents the earth's surface with all vegetation and human-made structures removed. Some elevation values have been interpolated across areas in the models where there is no elevation data (e.g. over water, over dense vegetation). Quantum Spatial, Inc. collected the lidar and created this data set for the Oregon Lidar Consortium (OLC).

In addition to these bare earth Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, the lidar point data that these DEM data were created from are also available. These data are available for download at the link provided in the URL section of this metadata record.

Data Quality

Vertical Positional Accuracy:

Vertical accuracy reporting is designed to meet guidelines presented in the National Standard for Spatial Data Accuracy (NSSDA) (FGDC,1998) and the ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data v1.0 (ASPRS, 2014). The statistical model compares known reserved ground survey points (GSPs) to the ground model, triangulated from the neighboring laser points. Vertical accuracy statistical analysis uses reserved ground survey points in open areas where the LiDAR system has a "very high probability" that the sensor will measure the ground surface and is evaluated at the 95th percentile.

For the OLC Siskiyou study area, a total of 845 ground control points were collected and used for calibration of the LiDAR data. An additional 45 ground survey points were collected and reserved for independent verification, resulting in a non-vegetated vertical accuracy (NVA) of 0.058 meters, or 0.190 feet.

Process Steps

Process Step 1

CC ID: 1292622
Description:

Acquisition.

LiDAR data acquisition occurred between June 18 and 21, 2017. The survey utilized a Leica ALS 80 laser system mounted in a Cessna Grand Caravan.

Process Date/Time: 2017-01-01 00:00:00

Process Step 2

CC ID: 1292623
Description:

The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) received 8 raster DEM files in ESRI ArcGrid format from DOGAMI. The data were in Oregon Lambert NAD83(2011), international feet, coordinates and NAVD88 (Geoid12b) elevations in international feet. The bare earth raster files were at a 3 ft grid spacing.

OCM performed the following processing on the data for Digital Coast storage and provisioning purposes:

1. Used internal script to assign the EPSG codes and convert to GeoTiff format.

2. Copied to the files to https.
